Burnt Sugar Pie

Ingredients:

1 cup granulated sugar, divided

1/2 cup hot water

2 egg yolks

1 tablespoon all-purpose flour

2 tablespoons cornstarch

2 cups milk

2 tablespoons butter, at room temperature

1 baked pie crust

meringue

Directions:

In a medium skillet, brown 1/2 cup sugar. Add water and let stand, covered, on warm temperature until all the sugar is dissolved.

Add egg yolks and stir well. Stir in flour, cornstarch and milk. Cook until thick, stirring constantly. Remove from stove and add butter. Pour into baked crust and cover with meringue. Bake until meringue is brown.
