Apple Pie |
Ingredients for Crust: 2 cups all-purpose flour, sifted 1/3 cup shortening 1/3 cup butter Crisco 7 tablespoons water, ice cold Directions: Combine first three ingredients and then add water. Mix well. Keep out less than 1/2 of batter for top. Roll remainder of the dough for crust. Place in pie pan. Ingredients for filling: 6 golden delicious apples, sliced 1 cup granulated sugar, plus additional small amount to sprinkle on top 1/3 cup all-purpose flour 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg 1/8 teaspoon ginger butter, slivered for top Directions: Preheat oven to 375 degrees. Mix all filling ingredients together and place in crust. Place 5 slivers of butter on top. Roll the remaining dough and then, using a knife or pizza cutter, cut remaining crust into 10 strips of about 1" wide. Interweave into a lattice pattern. Crimp strip edges with bottom crust to seal. Brush strips with milk, then sprinkle with 1 teaspoon sugar. Bake at 375 degrees for 10 minutes; reduce heat to 350 and bake another hour. |
